GENERAL SUMMARY :
Performs blood sample collection from hospital patients for analysis or other medical purposes.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

6. Performs limited patient testing on point of care instruments.
7. Accurately performs computer entry of patient demographic and testing information including specimen data collected by laboratory or other hospital staff.
8. Answers telephone calls and responds to non-technical questions from hospital staff and / or patients.

10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
11. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
12. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge of phlebotomy methods and practice standards.
2. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
3. Skill in the use and maintenance of general phlebotomy and laboratory instruments and equipment.
4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.
6. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
7. Ability to provide solutions to problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
8. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
10. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or equivalency required. Prior phlebotomy experience preferred. Phlebotomy course completion preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS :
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification preferred. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
