Location : This is a full-time position located in Augusta. This position allows for partial telework with manager approval.

Job Description :

The Maine Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL) Finance Team is looking for an Accounting Support Technician to provide accuracy, skill, and leadership to the HETL accounts payable processes. In this position, you will work and collaborate with a team of financial personnel to ensure all HETL financial processes are properly performed and recorded. This position will abide by the audit and accounting standards that are set in place.

This position directly supports the daily processing and reconciling of accounts payable and ordering for the Health & Environmental Testing Lab.

You will also :

  • Supporting accounting task for the HETL to include all accounts payable transactions.
  • Daily processing of accounts payable transactions, including preparing funding sheets and processing invoices that come to the HETL.
  • Collaborate with HETL Finance team members to ensure best practices.
  • Preparing, verifying, and organizing accounts payable documentation.
  • Creating and maintaining spreadsheets to perform tracking of accounts payable data.
  • Providing feedback and suggestions to the HETL Business Finance Manager and other team members for continued process improvements on accounts payable processes.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education, training, and / or experience in accounting support functions or another closely related field demonstrating competency in applying basic accounting principles and standards and maintaining records.

Preferred candidates will also have :

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to gather, synthesize, and summarize a variety of information and work in varied platforms and databases
  • Demonstrated skill applying best practices and standard accounting practices
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Expert computer and software skills, including knowledge of Excel and other accounting software (ex. Advantage, MainePays, DAFS Analytics)
  • Great reliability and dependability
  • Knowledge of and experience with best practices for government accounting
