Summary
The Installer IV position is an experienced professional who independently executes complex field activities related to installing, maintaining, and servicing telecommunications equipment. This role requires extensive industry knowledge and the ability to guide less experienced installers.
Job Description
Understand and follow Company’s established safety practices and proceduresProperly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE)Perform additions, removals, and modifications on working equipment and circuits, including circuit modifications, software additions or upgrades, power transition work, addition or removal of batteries, and circuits on working power distribution sourcesInstall, configure, and integrate telecommunication equipment such as switches, routers, fiber optics, and power systems in central office environmentsMount racks, frames, and shelves, ensuring all equipment is securely and correctly installedPerform cable installation, termination, labeling, and lacing, adhering to industry standardsProperly test and troubleshoot fiber / copper installationsPerform power verification and power up equipmentTest and evaluate systems to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systemsConduct diagnostic tests using OTDRs, power meters, and spectrum analyzersMaintain quality awareness and implement quality control processesPerform in-process and final quality inspectionsRead and stay current on installation documentationInterpret drawings, plans, and specifications successfullyInterpret the job plan and scope of work, perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructureMake recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practicesDiscuss media selection and implications for implementation on the networkResolve job specification and / or drawing problemsMark and correct office record drawingsAccurately document installation, testing, and maintenance activities, including as-built drawings and change logsExecute essential duties and responsibilities of Installer III plus additional leadership dutiesProvide work instruction to Level I, II, and III Installers; assign work to Level I and II InstallersServe as Site Crew Leader as neededPerform as the installation in-charge person on Common Systems jobs as neededPrepare Methods of Procedure (MOP) and Job Information Memorandums (JIMs)Conduct work assignments, communicate, dress, and assist customers professionallyCoordinate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to align installation plans and schedulesInventory all job-related materialAdd or remove non-powered equipment / hardware and wiring / connections on non-working equipment onlyLead verification and continuity testingAnalyze job specifications and drawingsProvide guidance and training to less experienced Installers as requested or requiredMay perform duties of a Level III or Level IV Installer when directly supervised by qualified personnelManagerial Responsibility
No direct reports but provides guidance and oversight to less experienced installers on jobsTravel / Shift Requirements
Available to travel 50%–75% of the timeTravel may require overnight stays away from home for 1–2 weeks, including weekendsAbility to work early morning shifts, occasional evenings, and infrequent weekendsMust have reliable transportation and be able to transport minor job-related toolsPhysical Demands
Lift a minimum of 50 lbs., occasionally up to 100 lbs.Work on ladders and in confined spacesSafely work around electrical wires and ESD productsWork onsite in central offices, construction, or installation sitesRequires fine motor skills and manual dexterity for gripping tools and assembling componentsAbility to stoop, kneel, bend, squat, lift, crawl, push, and pullSkills and Abilities required
Proficiency in installing cables, racks, power systems, and grounding systemsAbility to perform equipment rack mounting, cable lacing, and terminationComprehensive knowledge of installation processesRead, interpret, and understand technical drawings and documentationFamiliar with industry standards (AT&T TP-76300 / 76409 / Telcordia GR1275 / Verizon IP72202)Completion of “Basic Installation” training or equivalent on-the-job trainingSuccessful completion of Safety, Business Code of Conduct, Quality Assurance, and ESD trainingStrong analytical and troubleshooting skillsHigh attention to detail and full compliance with industry standardsAdvanced knowledge of current network products and installation phasesLeadership ability to guide less experienced team membersTime management to meet project deadlinesAptitude for technology and quick learning of technical conceptsProficiency with computers, tablets, and MS OfficeEffective communication with team members, supervisors, and other departmentsValid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and insuranceTrack and record work hours using time-tracking softwareGood coordination, manual dexterity, and precision with toolsQualifications
High School Diploma or equivalentTwo years of electronics training from a technical trade school or militaryMinimum of six years of field service or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Installation Manager or DirectorDemonstrated proficiency in relevant Network Elements (1, 2, 3, or 4)Experience leading, training, and motivating less experienced installersManagement assessment and approval of proficiency in Level IV skillsTwo years of electronics training from a technical trade school or military-  Preferred
