• Minimum 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery
• Ability to float to Med-Surg if needed
• Experience with one-to-one or one-to-four patient ratios

Description :

The unit specializes in Family Birth Center with three rooms.

There may be crossover to Med-Surg if the unit is at full capacity.

Certifications required include BLS, NRP, ACLS, and Advanced AWHONN.

The nurse-to-patient ratios range from one-to-one to one-to-four.

The electronic medical record system utilized is Cerner.

Charge Nurse responsibilities are part of the role, and no nurse aides are present on the unit.

Holidays will be worked as per the permanent staff rotation.

Scrub color is ceil blue, which is provided by the facility.

There are no ventilators or telemetry on the unit.

Respiratory Therapy is available 24 / 7, while pharmacy is not available 24 / 7.

Nurses may need to float primarily to Med-Surg for tasking.

Floor-specific orientation will include at least two days per unit the nurse will float to, based on experience and comfort level.

Common diagnoses and types of patients include those in Labor & Delivery.

The unit sees approximately 150-175 births per year.

The nurse may be the only Labor & Delivery nurse on site.

There is an expectation to assist in caring for the newborn during c-sections, with support from respiratory therapy and anesthesia.

Patients who are 36 weeks and less may be transferred to a higher-level facility or may require life flight.

Please note that the facility can cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment.
