A Brief Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an APRN / PA providing advanced nursing and patient care based upon education preparation and / or certification in the practitioner role in a clinic setting. The APP functions in both an independent and collaborative role with other providers, case managers, and members of the health care team in managing patients. As a practitioner, they preform select procedures, design individualized treatment plans, evaluate outcomes, and modify the treatment plan in accordance with the established management protocols and regulating bodies.
The APP utilizes excellent communication and customer relation skills in assessing, counseling and educating patients and their family as it relates to their care. The APP is also responsible to provide documentation of services provided in compliance with established medical records, medical staff, and billing procedures.
The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
Education Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited PA / APRN program. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined / outlined by specific department policy. Required
Skills And Abilities
All APRN incumbents are required to maintain Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy. (Required proficiency)
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and / or boards of directors. (Required proficiency)
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. (Required proficiency)
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required or
Nurse Practitioner - KSBN Must hold a RN license with advanced practice certification Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - ACLS Preferred
Additional certifications may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. DEA registration number is required in Manhattan, KS.
What you will do
Functions independently and collaboratively with physicians and all disciplines to provide continuity of health care services for individuals, families, and / or groups.
Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients. Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
Perform a complete physical exam and record findings. Collaboration with physicians in managing acute and long term medical needs of patients.
Order appropriate laboratory diagnostic procedures. Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnostic and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
Administer medications and injections according to physician direction. Suture minor lacerations.
Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patients and family needs. Instruct patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provide patient education.
Incumbents will maintain bedside nursing skills by providing three flexible bedside nursing shifts per month and may be designated to work at the bedside for further shifts. Maintenance of skills work and assignment at bedside will be determined by leadership.
Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation.
Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Post tests and examination results.
Manage medical emergencies.
Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Continue to be involved in professional organizations and show process towards individual development.
Effectively use laboratory equipment in the clinic and know procedures for sending laboratory tests to a reference lab.
Position and transfer patients to produce a radiograph.
Ensures that care delivered to patients is provided according to the Stormont-Vail HealthCare mission, strategic plans, and all internal / external regulations, policies and procedures. Practices within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and within the guidelines of management protocols. Supports the established care models of Stormont Vail Regional Health Center. Has prescriptive authority per Kansas Nurse Practice Act and SVHC protocols.
