Nurse

Position : Substitute Nurse

Servicing : Cleveland City Schools

Summary : The Substitute Nurse provides preventive health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Supports the education process by working to ensure the health of the students.

Essential Job Functions (note this is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position) :

• Report to the office upon arrival, check out at end of the day.
• Administer prescriptive medications according to physician’s orders.
• Makes referrals to other health care professionals, as required.
• Maintains a medical service record keeping system which complies with all applicable regulations.
• Provides direct nursing care to students based upon the nursing care plan or in response to an emergency situation.
• Serves as a resource person to school personnel in health education matters.
• Promotes and protects the optimal health status of school age children.
• Be aware of the different social personalities.
• Must be familiar with Microsoft Office and other computer programs.
• Assist administrators in implementing the policies and procedures of the school to maintain a safe learning environment for the students.
• Maintain student confidentiality.
• Be aware of any school policy and procedures regarding lock downs, fire drills, etc.
• Represent the District and PESG in a professional manner by performing all job functions at a satisfactory or above level.
• Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in a positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
• Performs other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested, consistent with reasonable expectations for the contracted position.
