Salary : $95K - $120K annually + Profit-Sharing Bonus

Job Summary

The Construction Safety Specialist will play a vital role in supporting and enforcing our safety programs across high-hazard job sites throughout our Construction Division. This position will serve as a field-level expert in hazard recognition, mitigation, and safety compliance, especially as it relates to Construction Operations and managing subcontractor safety performance. This role requires a hands-on leader who can drive safe practices in dynamic environments, including excavation, confined spaces, trenching, utility strikes, and high-risk mechanical operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Site Safety Oversight :

  • Conduct daily site safety inspections and audits across multiple projects involving general and subcontracted workforces.
  • Identify unsafe behaviors, environmental hazards, and process deviations; intervene and escalate when necessary.
  • Support / Direct site-specific Safety Plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Activity Hazard Analysis (AHAs).
  • Oversee subcontractor safety compliance, including orientation, certifications, and site access control.
  • Implement policies, procedures, and training programs to maintain OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other applicable compliance.

Incident Response and Investigation :

  • Respond to incidents when warranted and assist management with proper incident reporting.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety complaints.
  • Work with leadership to determine root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
  • Training & Communication :

  • Lead and coordinate subcontractor and employee safety orientations, safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety stand-downs.
  • Coach crews on PPE requirements, safe work practices, and company safety culture.
  • Support rollout of new safety policies, technologies, and compliance initiatives.
  • Compliance and Documentation :

  • Maintain up-to-date records of inspections, training, permits, and safety documentation in accordance with OSHA, Cal / OSHA, and company requirements.
  • Ensure subcontractors maintain their own compliant safety programs and documentation.
  • Interface with third-party safety auditors, utility agencies, or municipal inspectors as needed.
  • Complete Safety pre-qualification packages for Construction Division Operations.
  • Safety Equipment & Inventory Management :

  • Assist with PPE / Safety Supply inventory for Construction Division.
  • Complete CP Fall Protection Equipment Inspections as needed.

    Qualification Requirements

    Experience :

  • 5+ years of progressive HS&E experience, with at least 1 year in leadership role in high-hazard construction (e.g., trenching, confined space, heavy equipment, pipeline, or industrial work).
  • Experience in researching and implementing compliance programs.
  • Certifications :

  • OSHA 30-Hour certificate required.
  • OSHA 500 preferred
  • CHST, CHSO or similar safety certifications strongly preferred.
  • Licensing :

  • Valid Drivers License with a clean driving record.
  • Required Skills

    Construction HS&E Knowledge :

  • Strong understanding of construction HS&E (Health, Safety, and Environmental) standards.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Proficiency in computer-based programs & Microsoft Office Suite
  • Communication Skills :

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to develop engaging content.
  • Project Management & Organizational Skills :

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Collaboration & Independence :

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
