Climber - Chesapeake, VA
The Climber is responsible for climbing, pruning, and removing trees. Essential functions include following and enforcing safe practices, climbing, pruning, and removing trees according to directives, loading and unloading trucks, working from the ground using various tools, inspecting and ensuring the proper working condition of all assigned tools and equipment, and safeguarding employees and public from hazards in and around the work area. Climbers have no direct reports. Prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries is preferred, as well as previous climbing experience. A high school diploma or education equivalent is preferred. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include demonstrating a working knowledge of knots, ropes, and rigging devices, climbing and descending trees using rope and safety saddle, administering and implementing emergency rescue techniques, familiarity with electrical hazards and appropriate operating procedures, working and maneuvering at considerable heights, possessing physical strength and agility, quickly removing oneself from a potential danger area, obtaining and maintaining first-aid certification and CPR, wearing necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), and traveling out of town for storm restoration work when needed.
