POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for handling all day-to-day operational functions of the PIH Health Workers' Compensation department according to established policies, rules and regulations. Workers Compensation program oversight may extend to multiple PIH Health entities and facilities. In coordination with PIH Health s third-party administrator, ensures the timely processing of all employee workplace injuries and workers' compensation claims, and manages PIH Health s workers' compensation injury prevention program. Evaluates employee injury reports for completeness and ensures that the proper documentation and information has been reported by employees and managers. Communicates with the employees and managers on reported workplace injuries, claims and work status. Advises and educates employees regarding workers' compensation matters and injury prevention when needed and / or requested. Collaborates with Human Resources on transitional return to work and monitors employees in modified duty assignments who are on workers' compensation. Maintains all OSHA required documents and records regarding workers' compensation. Ongoing review of workers compensation claims and litigated matters to ensure appropriate level of management and stewardship performed by the third-party administrator. Coordinate and monitor eligible claims with the third-party administrator and insurers. Responsible for assisting employees in the ergonomic assessment process. . SPECIFIC SKILLS NEEDED Knowledge of workers compensation rules and regulations, OSHA standards, FMLA and disability laws, short term, and long-term disability EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / TRAINING Required : Minimum 5-years in workers compensation administration Minimum 1-year in benefits administration High school diploma or GED certification Preferred : California Self Insured Administrators License Bachelor's degree DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Safeguards and preserves the confidentiality of patient s protected health information in accordance with State and Federal (HIPAA) regulatory requirements, hospital, and departmental policies. 2. Ensures a safe patient environment and adherence to safety practices per policy. 3. With consideration to age, employee utilizes the approved process to resolve biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of patient / significant other when administering care. 4. Acts as a liaison between the employees, departments, and the Employee Health nurse relative to work-related injuries and illnesses 5. Initiates proper response to work-related injuries. 6. Conducts initial investigation gathering relevant facts, including witness names and contact information. 7. Checks for relevant performance issues. 8. Provides appropriate forms and information to injured workers. 9. Monitors Workers Compensation claims and ensures compliance in all legal aspects. Coordinates medical treatment with Work Comp TPA and with physicians and other specialties such as Physical Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, etc. 10. Acts as a liaison between Workers Compensation TPA and submits legally required paperwork to comply with regulatory agencies. 11. Provides work status to the department manager of the injured worker. 12. Identifies modified duty assignments within the injured worker s restrictions, with appropriate documentation and notice to TPA and department managers. 13. Coordinates Interactive Process with employees that have work limitations, as needed. 14. Provides modified earnings to TPA. 15. Monitors status of Workers Compensation leaves, coordinates issues such as SLR / PTO, disability pay and payment of insurance benefits, while keeping supervisor informed of employee s availability to return to work. 16. Assists legal counsel in items such as preparation of personnel and payroll files, coordinating / requesting sub-rosa and / or statements as needed. 17. Reviews medical invoices for appropriate processing 18. Arranges for ergonomic evaluations at workstations. 19. Review Loss Replenishments for accuracy. 20. Coordinates settlement authority as needed between TPA and upper management. 21. Review files with TPA for proper handling and recommendations. 22. Teaches quarterly class with LOA Coordinator : Overview of LOA / WC Class to inform Supervisors & Management of LOA & Work Comp Process. 23. Provides statistics and reports to the Environment of Care and SWIT Committee. 24. Prepares PI Reports for Employee Health (Needlestick / Exposures, Fit Testing stats), Human Resources (# Injuries, # Lost workdays) and Environment of Care (# Slips & Falls, # Patient Handling injuries, # Material Handling injuries and # Computer Injuries). 25. Identifies trends or safety issues which may result in injury to employees or patients. 26. Maintains Workers Compensation database with current information on injured workers for the purpose of monitoring claim progress, OSHA 300 Log maintenance and reporting. 27. First response to employee and / or management questions regarding benefits, safety and leaves of absence. 28. Monitors Workers Compensation Program and recommends changes as needed. 29. Monitors and addresses changes in Work Comp laws as well as FMLA, ADA, FEHA, Dept. of Self Insurance, etc. 30. Perform other duties as assigned. TEAMWORK / CUSTOMER SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
