Job Summary
Dennis Group Safety Managers assist in the development, management, and implementation of a Health and Safety Program for all of Dennis Group's projects. Our projects are vertical, industrial construction projects involving multiple engineering disciplines and sub-contractor trades. Our safety professionals are responsible for the safety practices of all personnel on our projects. This role requires knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety management, accident investigation, and training in the construction industry. The professional will be a member of the safety department and will have responsibilities as described below.
Safety Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing health and safety programs.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating health and safety training and activities.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws and current safety regulations.
- Compile incident rate data on injuries and accidents.
- Prepare and deliver safety toolbox talks and safety training topics for contractors.
- Prepare, implement, and enforce Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Activities Hazard Analysis (AHA).
- Attend and prepare safety actions for pre-construction conferences, pre-work meetings, inspections, and periodic in-progress project meetings.
- Conduct and document Jobsite Safety Observations.
- Review subcontractor safety pre-qualification submittals.
- Collaborate with Construction Managers and Sr Safety Managers to establish job site safety procedures and policies during mobilization and as needed during the project.
- May act as full-time on-site safety coordinator for projects as required.
- Review safety programs with client representatives and governmental agencies.
- Research construction safety best practices.
- Support talent growth within the organization.
- Educate and provide training and support on accident / injury prevention procedures to Dennis Group personnel at all levels.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to subordinate groups when directed by supervisors.
Accidents Responsibilities
Investigate accidents, determine root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.Prepare and distribute data reports of accident and incident metrics, such as OSHA recordables and LT rates.Required Education, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor's degree in health and safety, risk management, or construction is required. Candidates enrolled in a bachelor's program in health and safety will be considered for internship opportunities.4–7 years of experience overseeing safety activities on construction projects.4–7 years of experience developing, implementing, and coordinating health and safety training and activities for construction projects.4–7 years of experience performing construction job site safety inspections and conducting safety-related studies and investigations.OSHA training certifications and other professional certifications.Ability to travel to job sites throughout North America as required. Travel estimated to be 75%+, unless stationed on a jobsite (first 6 months of employment – training).Proficient in MS Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Sound judgment and independent decision-making.Self-starter with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, and periods of standing and walking on project sites with uneven surfaces.Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of a jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.Exposure to typical construction site hazards.Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other on-site issues.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.Travel Requirement
Projects are located throughout the United States and Canada. Ability to travel to job sites throughout North America as required. Travel is estimated to be 75%+, unless stationed on a jobsite (first 6 months of employment – training).
