Software Modernization Lead : Industrial Automation Projects - Des Moines, IA

This is a full-time, exempt-level position located on-site at ADM's operation in Des Moines, IA.

Position Description :

We are seeking an experienced Software Lead to spearhead the development, implementation, and modernization of software for process control systems in industrial automation projects.

The successful candidate will lead software-related aspects of projects involving systems such as Emerson DeltaV and Rockwell PlantPAx, ensuring robust, efficient, and innovative solutions that meet ADM specifications and industry standards. This role requires technical expertise, leadership, project management experience, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge automation solutions.

The ADM Modernization Program [Program Aurora] is an ADM Operations Initiative to modernize our strategic facilities through Automation and Optimization. Utilizing technology and ADM expertise, we will reduce unplanned downtime, support safety initiatives, increase OEE, and standardize our processes across our business units. The Program is an enabler for ADM's Digital Transformation.

Key Responsibilities :

• Software Design and Development : Lead the governance and oversight of 3rd party Automation Vendor software design; provide technical requirements for software architecture, programming, and integration
• Project Leadership : Oversee software engineering tasks, including system configuration, programming, and integration for modernization projects
• Modernization of Legacy Systems : Plan and execute upgrades for legacy control system software (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Rockwell PlantPAx) to enhance performance, reliability, and scalability
• Collaboration : Work closely with hardware engineers, control system engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless integration of software and hardware components
• Technical Documentation : Develop and maintain detailed software specifications, functional descriptions, narratives, and programming documentation. Provide input for cross-functional reviews
• Testing and Commissioning : Lead software testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning activities to ensure systems meet operational requirements. Coordinate FAT / SAT testing and deliverables for software components
• Compliance and Standards : Ensure all software designs comply with industry standards (e.g., ISA, IEC, NEC) and client-specific requirements, including cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443)
• Vendor Management : Coordinate with vendors for procurement of software tools, licenses, and services, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints
• Mentorship : Guide and mentor junior software engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and innovation

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.
