Security Officer

This recruitment process will be used to fill full-time contract and regular-status Security Officer positions with the Glendale Police Department. Contract positions are one-year terms. The benefits offered with contract positions are medical, sick time, and ASRS retirement. As vacancies occur, contract employees may have the opportunity to move to regular-status positions with full City benefits.
Provides security for City facilities, enforces rules and regulations and answers questions and provides information to the public.
Duties may vary depending on assignment :
Minimum Qualifications :
Two years of experience as a security officer, police officer, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Knowledge of : Industrial security practices Electronic security alarms and systems
Skill in : Analyzing and reacting to emergency situations
Ability to : Handle encounters with irate or hostile individuals Identify hazardous or unsafe conditions or behaviors Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public Effectively communicate orally and in writing
Special Requirements :
Valid Arizona driver's license. May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions :
Extensive walking or sitting depending on assignment.
