Overview

Lead with purpose and step into a high-impact role as HGA's Director of Business Development, shaping the future through meaningful partnerships and bold strategies.

We are seeking a strategic and collaborative Director of Business Development to lead HGA’s regional and national business development teams in identifying and securing new opportunities across targeted sectors and high-growth geographic markets. This role advances the firm’s business development strategy, leveraging relationship-driven sales for services with a high price point and long lead times, targeting B2B C-suite-level decision makers. The ideal candidate excels at mentoring and empowering others, leading and helping the team succeed in a matrixed environment spanning marketing, BD, and practice leadership.

This role requires an experienced leader who fosters accountability, collaboration, and alignment with HGA's firm-wide strategy.

In This Role You Will

Strategic Planning & Market Positioning

  • provides strategic direction to align the BD strategy with the firm’s long-term growth goals;
  • reviews and approves market analysis approaches and uses insights in annual planning and targeting;
  • ensures BD plans are aligned with practice / sector leaders and adequately resourced;
  • monitors execution of annual BD plans and intervenes to address risks or gaps;
  • reviews plans with a national lens for cross-sector collaboration opportunities.

Client Relationship Management

  • sets relationship development goals for the BD team and aligns with firm-wide engagement strategies;
  • coaches team members in building strategic client and industry relationships, especially for high-value clients; and
  • provides guidance on key account strategy in partnership with the CMO.
  • Pursuit Strategy & Capture Planning

  • oversees capture strategies and pursuit plans for priority clients and high-impact opportunities;
  • ensures consistent messaging around capabilities, differentiators, and project experience;
  • contributes to proposal and interview win strategies and enforces go / no-go processes;
  • holds the team accountable for pipeline integrity, pursuit lifecycle, and BD ROI;
  • ensures debriefs are conducted and learnings shared across teams.
  • Internal Collaboration and Leadership

  • develops the BD team through role descriptions, mentoring, coaching, and performance evaluations;
  • fosters collaboration, accountability, and proactive client service across practices and offices;
  • ensures robust tracking and reporting for BD activity with actionable leadership insights;
  • facilitates integration of BD with marketing, branding, and thought leadership; and
  • champions cross-functional collaboration and client intelligence sharing firmwide.
  • Financial Management

  • aligns BD plans with budgeting and regional / practice resource allocation;
  • approves and monitors BD budgets (conferences, travel, pursuits);
  • evaluates ROI on BD investments and adjusts resources to maximize impact.

  • You Will Need To Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or related field (Master’s degree a plus)
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, with at least 5 years in A / E / C or other professional services
  • 5+ years managing a team of BD professionals
  • deep knowledge of the commercial real estate market, procurement processes, and client dynamics
  • proficiency with CRM platforms (e.g., Deltek, Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite
  • proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Salary Information

    The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon experience, education, licensure requirements, and skill level. Eligible employees may participate in bonus programs, 401(k), and other benefits. Salary Range : $165,000 - $204,700.
