Description :

This position is for a Registered Nurse in a MedSurg / Telemetry unit.

The unit has a total of 17 beds with an average patient load of 11.

Patients of all ages, from infants to adults, are cared for.

The required certifications include ACLS and BLS.

The nurse-patient ratio is typically 3-4, with a maximum of 5.

Electronic medical records are managed using Cerner.

There is a charge nurse available, but no dedicated unit charge nurse.

Nurse aides and unit techs assist with patient care and telemetry monitoring while occasionally handling paperwork and I&Os.

Weekend work is a requirement as part of the permanent staff rotation.

Nurses are expected to work holidays as needed.

Scrub color for the unit is navy.

Telemetry monitoring is a part of the care provided, but ventilation management is not.

Hospitalists or intensivists are not in-house 24 / 7 and are on call after rounds.

An IV team is not available, but respiratory therapy is on-site 24 / 7.

Pharmacy services, including telepharmacy, are available 24 / 7.

Shifts are 12 hours long, either from 0700 to 1930 or from 1900 to 0730.

Floating to other departments may be required.

There will be a floor-specific orientation consisting of two shifts.

Common diagnoses include orthopedic conditions, diabetics, acute coronary syndrome, and pneumonia.

The patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric.

The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment.
