Architect – Commercial Job Captain

About Us

Tyndall Engineering & Design has a long history of providing structural engineering services across the Southeast, with notable work in Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, and Charleston, SC. Alongside our established residential design studio, we have recently launched a dedicated Commercial Architecture Studio to expand our integrated design services.

We are seeking an Architect with 3–5 years of experience who is ready to take on more responsibility in commercial project delivery. This role is ideal for someone eager to grow into a leadership position, supported by a firm with a trusted regional presence.

Your Role + The Opportunity

As an Architect in our Commercial Studio, you'll work closely with senior team members to lead small to medium-sized projects, manage clients and consultants, and contribute to the growth of our commercial practice. You don't need to have all the answers yet—what matters most is that you bring curiosity, drive, and the desire to take ownership of your career.

This position is an in-office role based in Garner, NC.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading commercial projects (retail, office, hospitality, adaptive reuse, mixed-use, etc.) through all phases of design and construction.
  • Support client communication, consultant coordination, and project documentation.
  • Take increasing responsibility for project schedules, budgets, and deliverables as you grow into the role.
  • Contribute to business development by supporting proposals, presentations, and relationship building.
  • Collaborate with and learn from senior architects, while mentoring interns and junior staff.
  • Attend project meetings and site visits, supporting design and technical problem-solving.
  • Use Revit and other tools to produce high-quality drawings and documents.

Skills + Qualifications

  • Professional degree in Architecture; working toward licensure preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in commercial architecture.
  • Familiarity with construction documents, building codes, and detailing.
  • Proficiency in Revit required; experience with Bluebeam, Adobe Suite, and Rhino is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • A self-starter attitude, with interest in growing into project and client leadership.
