CDOC (SOCIAL WORK / COUNSELOR III) - Substance Use Disorder Treatment - (STERLING)
This position provides substance use disorder services to a special population of offenders, including behavioral health assessments, individual and group therapy, clinical management of offenders with mental illness, and substance abuse issues. The role supports a parolee intensive treatment program operated by the department.
Responsibilities
- Provides professional behavioral health services to the offender population, including formal and informal behavioral health evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and clinical interventions.
- Serves as a consultant for unit staff regarding assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Provides clinical direction to non-clinical staff in behavioral health care and treatment of offenders.
- Assures continuity of care for offenders by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary information and documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies.
- Provides crisis intervention in conjunction with clinical standards regarding mental health professional privilege level.
- Educates offenders regarding substance use treatment.
- Communicates about complaints, problems, transfers, classifications, and offender behavioral management issues as they relate to substance use treatment.
- Monitors inmate treatment and documentation to ensure compliance with standards and continuity of care.
Minimum Qualifications
Current, valid Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) credential issued by the Colorado State Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners.One (1) year of licensed or license candidacy experience with the substance use, mental health and / or sex offender population.Substitutions
Valid license from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (CSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychologist, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); ANDA valid certification from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) or Addiction Counselor Candidate (ADDC) may substitute for the LAC requirement.Required Competencies
Self-control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations;Emotional stability and resilience;Knowledge of SUD treatment standards and mental health standards;Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;Ability to create accessible documents following plain language guidelines;Ability to provide direct patient care to inmates;Maintain required licensure.Preferred Qualifications
Current Professional Counseling License (LPC), or Clinical Social Worker License (CSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in Colorado;Experience with mental health treatment and discharge planning for severely mentally ill and developmentally disabled populations;Experience with SUD treatment in a therapeutic community and with incarcerated populations;Experience conducting suicide risk assessments and working on multidisciplinary teams.Important Information
