Our client's commercial lines key accounts department is currently seeking an experienced underwriter to actively engage with agents and brokers to manage a book of new and renewal business in the assigned multi-state territory under limited general supervision. Key accounts are defined as those risks generating premiums in excess of $400k annually. This position is for the New York and New Jersey territory.
Responsibilities :
Manage a territory of guaranteed cost and loss sensitive business as a life-cycle underwriter, responsible for both new business production goals and a renewal book of business.
Engage with partner agents and brokers that drive revenue with key account size business by promoting our company’s products and services.
Work to strategically grow by partnering with our local field marketing reps to drive submission activity.
Understand the agency planning process and impact of contingency / supplemental commission arrangements.
Speak competently about relevant issues impacting contractors and how it impacts their risk management program.
Evaluate and document contractor exposures and controls, analyzing actuarial loss models using both predictive analytics and a layered and excess loss approach.
Price business to achieve positive returns within the framework of the organization’s risk appetite.
Effectively negotiate renewals to achieve business unit goals, including rate / retention dynamics and policy terms and conditions.
Proactively engage insureds in the assigned territory, developing and executing on stewardship service plans - addressing claims, loss control and RMIS service needs.
Requirements :
7+ years of construction specific underwriting experience in middle market and large accounts
Working knowledge of large account marketing and underwriting, including awareness of loss sensitive programs, familiarity with collateral concepts, wrap-ups and other contractor specific coverage
Analytical and critical-thinking skills
Strong understanding of the life cycle on construction projects
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities
Understanding of portfolio management and ability to balance growth and profit dynamics to achieve company targets
Self-starter with creative thinking and an ability to create opportunity
Willingness to travel roughly 25% including day trips and occasional overnight
CPCU / other designations (preferred)
College degree
Pay Range :
The pay range for this position is $100,000 - $195,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.
