Beds : 28 private beds

Role : Step-Down / Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN

Shift : 12-hour shifts (7a–7 : 30p & 7p–7 : 30a) | Every other weekend | Every other holiday rotation

Certifications : BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

EMR : Cerner / EPIC

Ratios : 1 : 4–5 (MedSurg 1 : 6)

Orientation : 2 shifts with preceptor

Float : May float to ICU as needed

Patient Population : Heavy cardiac (dysrhythmias, CVAs), complex step-down cases

Telemetry / Drips : RN reads strips; must titrate Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin; insulin set-rate only

Equipment : BiPAP, CPAP, high flow vents

Support : Hospitalist 24 / 7, Intensivist 7a–7p with on-call coverage, RT & Pharmacy 24 / 7, nurse aides during the day / mid-shift

Dress Code : Navy blue scrubs
