Safety Officer
JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE
Responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive safety program in compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies to include both hospital-based and off-site locations. In collaboration with department managers and safety committee members, establishes processes and goals for a system-wide safety program, as well as monitoring the program for compliance and evaluating the effectiveness of the program.
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Employee Health & Safety (EH&S) strives to protect and improve the health and safety of Samaritan Health Services’ workforce. Employees are evaluated in the EH&S department at new hire for hospital and state required health testing and immunizations. EH&S team members provide assistance and consultation to management in the areas of hazard assessment, ergonomics, accident investigation, return-to-work and fitness-for-duty services. EH&S team members play a key role on safety, injury prevention, infection prevention and wellness committees. We also assist Human Resources with determining the appropriate work adaptations for employees with ADAAA requests.
EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a health care or safety related field, or equivalent experience / training with credentials in field of expertise required. Certified Healthcare Safety Professional or similar safety related certification preferred. Job experience in healthcare preferred.
Four (4) years experience in health care or safety management required.
Experience or training with leading meetings, policy / procedure development and report writing required.
Experience or training with accrediting agency standards, OSHA standards / regulations and Oregon workers' compensation regulations required.
Experience with conducting safety inspections and developing / implementing safety training required.
Experience with data analysis, word processing, spreadsheet development and database applications required.
Certified Healthcare Safety Professional or similar safety related certification preferred. Job experience in healthcare preferred.

Time Management - Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work to complete within required time frames and to follow-up on pending issues. Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and thrive in dynamic fast-paced environments and under pressure.
Systems Analysis / Evaluation - Knowledge of how a system works and how changes will affect outcomes. Ability to identify measures of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance to meet certain goals.
