Product Development Engineer

Overview

A fast-growing medical device manufacturer in Cincinnati, OH is seeking a Product Development Engineer to support an in-depth design review and optimization of a transfer system currently moving toward commercialization. This will be a dedicated, full-time role for approximately 3-6 months, with an anticipated start date as early as the end of the month. Candidates will need to work on site in Cincinnati. This consultant would be joining a team of 4 engineers and 1 designer, but will primarily be working independently.

The goal is to ensure the design is robust, manufacturable at scale, and adaptable where necessary, with appropriate controls in place. This engineer will take ownership of one project scope, conducting a holistic design review with the goal of maximizing manufacturability, yield, and long-term control. This role is intended for a self-sufficient, engineer who can independently drive technical assessments and design recommendations with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

• Perform a comprehensive tolerance assessment of the current design.
• Identify opportunities to relax or optimize design restrictions to enable increased production efficiency and yield.
• Recommend and define appropriate control strategies.
• Review and assess legacy infrastructure and tooling, with a retrospective view to ensure supplier capability and manufacturability.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate any approved design updates into the QMS.
• Define and execute engineering studies to justify design changes or control implementation.
• Drive activities to closure – adding, modifying, or removing controls based on data.
