Nutrition Service Manager

The Nutrition Services Manager is responsible for planning and collaborating with leaders and staff in the Head Start / Early Head Start and California Department of Education (CDE) / California Department of Social Services programs to ensure that all children are well and receiving healthy meals at school. The Nutrition Services Manager oversees the various food services models in the program, health factors for children related to nutrition, and ensures ongoing monitoring, record-keeping, supervision of nutrition staff, training, education, family engagement, community partnerships and other service coordination.

Essential functions include overseeing food service contract implementation and kitchen / food production operation, providing staff training, maintaining regular communication with food vendors, working with a Registered Dietitian to oversee menu development and planning, ensuring food safety / sanitation, training and supervising nutrition staff, coordinating with Nutrition team members to conduct site monitoring, providing budget recommendations, overseeing nutrition supplies and equipment inventory, completing paperwork for CACFP contract renewal, developing positive relationships with local Women, Infants and Children (W.I.C.) agencies, participating in agency's Health and Mental Health Advisory Committee and other health or nutrition advisory committees, identifying areas of opportunity to improve program efficiency, and completing other duties as assigned.

The effectiveness of this position should be measured by communications based on mutual trust, positive relationships developed with families and outside community partners, timely completion of program reports and documentation, and serving the targeted number of youth and families.

The work environment and physical demands include sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions, ability to travel locally for meetings, training and special events, visual ability to clearly monitor activities, and mobility to quickly respond to emergencies.

Qualifications include a Bachelors' Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the following disciplines : Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Science, Health Education, or a related field, Registered Dietician and / or Masters' Degree preferred, two years experience working in a Head Start, child development program or other CACFP / USDA nutrition program, experience in food-service and / or kitchen management administration preferred, a high degree of cultural awareness and competency in cross-cultural practices with children and families, experience working with low-income communities, strong written and verbal communication skills, T.B. and other required health clearances at the time of employment, fingerprint clearance by the DOJ and CCL agencies, valid California Drivers' License and use of a personal automobile including evidence of auto liability insurance coverage, bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other computer programs.
