Overview
Staff Research Associate 2 - SOM : Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at University of California, Davis. Under supervision, incumbents perform a wide variety of standard repetitive laboratory experimental procedures at the full operational or journey level of skill in histology. This position may also perform a limited variety of non-standard laboratory experimental procedures requiring ingenuity, resourcefulness, and adaptability to special and changing needs of research in the field of histology.
Key Responsibilities
- 35% - Performs Histology techniques and procedures
- 20% - Assists Core Supervisor and Pathologists in the execution of research projects
- 20% - Documents projects, procedures, and protocols
- 10% - Contributes to the functioning of the laboratory
- 10% - Participates in routine laboratory safety and maintenance of lab equipment
- 5% - Represents the Histology Core to clientele

Minimum Qualifications : Requires a Bachelor of Science degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experienceAt least 1 year of laboratory research experienceExperience with handling animal and / or human tissues1 year of experience with histotechnology applicationsExperience in immunohistochemistry techniques (optimization, validation, troubleshooting) and / or histochemical stainingConsistent attention to detail and accuracyAbility to effectively prioritize projects to meet deadlinesDemonstrated ability to multitask in a fast paced environmentExcellent written and interpersonal verbal communication skillsExperience with computing and research softwarePreferred Qualifications

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine aims to be a scientific leader in clinical diagnostics, next generation innovation, collaborative discovery, and education. The department is involved in multi-disciplinary research and education on multiple campuses, with research space in Sacramento and Davis. This position is part of the Histology Core group and will work under the direction of the core director and supervisor. Collaboration with Core clients and pathologists is expected.
