The department of Libraries at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Library Associate for Metadata.
About the Opportunity
This position will provide support in the creation, reporting, and analysis of MARC metadata in the library management system and in the organization, implementation, and completion of various database maintenance projects.

What You'll Do
Metadata Creation
Identify records for library use in the OCLC cooperative bibliographic databasePerform original and descriptive cataloging, subject analysis, and classification under the direction of the Head of Metadata or metadata librarians when records aren't available in the OCLC cooperative bibliographic databaseUpdate records in the OCLC cooperative bibliographic database as necessary to meet national cataloging standards as determined by subject specialists and metadata librariansDerive serial records in the OCLC cooperative bibliographic database as necessary to correctly identify unique serial itemsServe as a resource to assigned student assistants on metadata entryCreate and set holdings as needed within the library management systemCommunicate with library stakeholders about the progress of projects and backlogs or local procedures and practicesData Analysis and Reporting
Run scheduled reports on non-MARC data sources in the Library Management System, including Inventory and the Analytics module, to report on circulation, materials' locations and statusesRun requested reports on non-MARC data sources to support projects and workflows within and across Libraries UnitsMetadata Creation for Digital Projects
Create metadata for digital projects as determined by Unit Head in collaboration with other Libraries stakeholdersProvide training to student assistants in the input of metadata for digital projectsWork independently to execute project tasks in a timely manner, meeting task due dates and project milestonesParticipate in project initiation and planning activities to understand project specifications, tasks, and milestonesLibrary Operations
Participate in departmental and library wide meetings and training sessionsServe on appropriate interdepartmental committees as a KARM representativeIdentify and participate in training opportunities specific to the positionPrepare technical documentation for use on the staff intranet or other shared documentation platformProvide statistics for annual reportingAssist student workers with metadata questions and projects as neededComplete physical processing of library materialsAssist in Departmental projects as assignedAnalyze library, department, and unit needs and make recommendations to improve workflows and projects or enhance access to materialsPay Grade : 14
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field.A minimum of six (6) months of relevant experience.Library and integrated library experience or comparable preferred.Any equivalent combination of related education and / or experience will be considered.All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
