Position Summary

The Customer Decision Science team analyzes store trips, web / app visits, service interactions, search, click, purchases, survey responses, etc., to deliver the easiest shopping experience both digitally and physically. As a Staff Data Scientist in the team, you will leverage technology, big data, and analytics to improve the lives of the 100M+ households that shop at Walmart every year. You will identify and quantify accelerators and decelerators of customer engagement using causal inference techniques and support activation and operationalization of prioritized High Value Actions (HVAs). This role reports to the Senior Director of Customer Decision Science and involves collaborating with cross-functional partners and executive stakeholders to drive business outcomes.
What you'll do
- Partner with C-suite, corporate strategy, marketing, merchandising, research, product, finance, and engineering organizations to drive outcomes
- Ideate and design relevant data products with a strong product mindset
- Own team-level SQL views and feature store pipelines for at least two business domain areas
- Develop quantitative analyses and predictive models to support decision making
- Design and execute experiments to achieve business objectives and drive optimization
- Collaborate with Data and Tech Engineers to define data and tracking requirements
- Translate data insights into actions and self-serve products
- Produce visuals and presentations to clearly communicate findings to stakeholders and leadership
- Analyze and maintain customer KPIs and metrics to identify cause-effect relationships between actions and outcomes
- Work with Research, Data, and BI teams
Minimum Qualifications
4+ years of experience in data / decision scienceExperience leading data-driven projects from definition to execution and influencing product and marketing roadmapsDirect experience with very large datasets in BigQuery or similar platforms, including building in-database ML modelsProficiency in at least one scripting language (R, Python); ability to build a repository of functions to automate data science workflows (preferably using dbplyr with BigQuery backend)Deep expertise in writing and debugging complex SQL queriesPresentation experience and a proven track record of using insights to influence executives and colleaguesPreferred Qualifications
Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, or related field; MBA or management consulting experienceRetail / e-commerce domain experienceExperience in data science, ML, optimization models; knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and inclusive design is valuedOther Information
The annual salary ranges vary by location : Hoboken, NJ and San Bruno, CA are listed with ranges. Additional compensation may include performance bonuses and stock options.
