Responsibilities

Coordinates and conducts the inspection of ammunition, ammunition containers, and as required performs the following in support of the Fort Carson Colorado (FCCO) and surrounding Military agencies IAW ASO Standard Operating Procedures (SOP); establishes delivery and turn-in sequences for FCCO reporting units according to job order priorities IOT prevent delinquencies; coordinates, inventory's, and inspects ammunition scheduled for turn-in and or temporary storage, ensuring adherence to proper safety and ammo compatibility requirements; plan, prepare and inspect outgoing, over-the-road, ammunition shipments to ensure compliance with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and Army Regulations; perform remarking operations, re-stenciling, and repackaging as required in order to restock ammunition at the Ammunition Supply Point (ASP). The inspector lead works with QASAS managing the FCCO ASP inspection program utilizing Munitions History Program (MHP) to track all periodic (PI), receipt (RI), damage in transit (DIT) and safety in storage (SIS) inspections. In addition to daily duties will perform hands on training of FCCO ammunition handlers (89B, 89A) will be required. Assists and take guidance from Government QASAS and Item Mangers for disposition of ammunition.

Major Job Activities :

Inspects wide variety of ammunition including small arms, artillery projectiles, powder canisters, fuses, rockets, missiles, smoke, illumination and white phosphorous pyrotechnics, mines and other items.

Performs customer support functions; those processes used to support the total requirement of customers to gain logistics support in both combat and peacetime situations.

Enforces safety standards and monitors to ensure all vehicle requirements for transportation of ammunition are met.

Observes handling and storage operations to ensure adherence to proper safety procedures and Net Explosive Weight (NEW) is properly calculated for berm storage.

Conducts accountability and serviceability inspections on incoming and outgoing ammunition shipments, field returns and on ammunition in storage.

Performs repackaging and routine reconditioning operations on field returns for restoring at FCCO ASP.

Assists Government QASAS to verify contents of shipments against shipping documents or other records. May receive guidance from other Government QASAS.

Reports all violations to Supervisor or QASAS and provides input for ammunition condition report (ACR), as required.

Inspects field returns and amnesty turn-ins for damage and serviceability. Inspects and classifies ammunition and containers to determine corrective measures required for multi-packs.

Enforces standards at ASP for all renovation, remarking and re-stenciling procedures for all assigned personnel.

Segregates irreparable / unserviceable items and prepares for shipment, as directed.

Operates / maintains appropriate Logistics Information System (LIS) or computerized system and maintains employee records for required tasks.

Compiles / Prepares reports (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or as required).

As a Leader the Lead inspires others to perform well and accepts positive feedback from others. Performs duties, reviewing timecards, administer counseling, evaluations, training.

Responsible for managing the FCCO amnesty program at ASP.

Performs other duties.

Material & Equipment Directly Used :

• Forklifts, other Material Handling Equipment (MHE), PC's, printers, fax machine, copier.

Qualifications

Education : High School graduate or equivalent. Formal training in ammunition handling required. Training in ammunition breakdown, distribution and accountability. Special Technical Training in Ammunition such as that conducted by the Defense Ammunition Center, Savanna, IL is preferred although, equivalent practical experience gained through recent, extensive, day-to-day handling of ammunition may be acceptable in lieu of formal training.

Experience : A minimum five years' experience in the receipt, issue, storage, shipment and accountability of ammunition is required as outlined in TM 9-1300-206, FM 9-13 and DA PAM 710-2-2. Must display an in-depth understanding of prescribed safety and security procedures relating to ammunition and explosives. HAZARD and Ammunition Certification. Two years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Leadership : Two years in a leadership position with knowledge in leadership skills and running a section.

Must possess and continuously maintain a current State of Colorado Driver's License prior to start date or by 30 days after employment.

Security Clearance : Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquires, NACI to obtain a CAC, and obtain a Secret Clearance. Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
