Base pay range

$18.50 / hr - $27.75 / hr

Major Responsibilities

  • Maintain all assigned O.R. suites, ancillary areas and department areas in a clean, neat and sanitary manner.
  • Clean all assigned areas utilizing established department procedures.
  • Clean assigned carts / equipment daily; ensure items are returned in an orderly manner.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc. Request supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Routinely collect waste; sanitize garbage cans on an ongoing basis.
  • Observe and follow Standard Precautions, Infection Control, OSHA, Accrediting Organization, IDPH and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Clean or sanitize after emergent spills as requested.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, attractive environment for patients, staff and visitors at all times.
  • Wash hands thoroughly throughout the day; follow hospital policy.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating in safety initiatives.
  • Maintain all assigned OR suites, ancillary areas, department areas, and clinic areas and corridors with the correct preventative maintenance procedures as outlined in department policy as requested.
  • Operate various equipment following department procedures.
  • Use chemicals and solutions following department policy.
  • Keep work area in an orderly, clean and safe condition.
  • Use appropriate procedures following OR room turnover.
  • Thoroughly sanitize OR beds for turnover and make beds with clean linen in accordance with department procedures.
  • Thoroughly sanitize entire OR for turnover, utilizing established department guidelines and productivity measures.
  • Use appropriate germicide in disinfecting rooms.
  • Perform hard surface floor and carpet care in all assigned areas following appropriate departmental procedures.
  • Identify types of soiling / spotting and use proper solutions as outlined in department policy and procedures with no documented incidents of misuse.
  • Handle chemicals and solutions following department policy and ensure containers are properly labeled.
  • Adhere to safety regulations as outlined in department policy and procedures.
  • Assist in enhancing productivity and efficient operations of the department.
  • Exhibit timely, satisfactory completion of all assignments.
  • Exercise initiative, seeking additional tasks from supervisor or other staff when time permits.
  • Promote effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships, maintaining professional conduct at all times.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and resolve interpersonal conflicts constructively; maintain a supportive attitude during emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Display patience and tact when dealing with hospital personnel and patients' families.
  • Present department in a positive manner to all contacts; maintain courteous and pleasant attitude toward patients' families and visitors.
  • Utilize the department chain of command in resolving complaints, grievances or problems.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth.
  • Attend mandatory departmental and hospital meetings and in-services.
  • Follow written goals and objectives and review progress with supervisor.
  • Seek education and learning experiences in areas of identified growth needs and review progress during annual evaluation.
  • Inspect and determine which cleaning techniques to follow based on orientation guidelines.
  • Analyze floors or carpet conditions and determine proper cleaning techniques; maintain hard floors and carpets following departmental procedures.
  • Maintain attendance and punctuality as required by department policy.

Education / Experience Required

  • High school graduation or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • No previous experience necessary.
  • CPR
  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Demands walking, standing, handling, climbing and lifting throughout the work day.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment or assistance from another associate is expected.
