Financial Practitioner I
The Financial Practitioner I is responsible for being a team leader and will serve as a first-line resource and provide periodic guidance to Student Assistants. This role supports the Galveston Student Business Services departmental operations by overseeing student assistants, assisting with auxiliary units, and contributing to customer service, payment support, and training efforts. This position also helps ensure compliance and contributes to the development of procedures collaborating with leadership as needed.
Essential Duties / Tasks
Customer Service
- Provides customer service regarding student account questions to internal and external customers, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to prospective students and parents at the Galveston SBS office. Answers emails through FreshDesk and SalesForce.
- Serves as a customer service escalation point for more complex student account transactions.
- Assists with New Student Conference and Summer Sea Term presentations. Assists with New Student and Family events and programming, as necessary.
- Distributes student ID cards, and coordinates with the Aggie Card office on ID delivery schedules.
Payment Processing
Provides direction and support for student assistants' processing payments with a focus on maintaining accuracy.Supports departmental deposit procedures.Processes Cash to Order transactions.Manages Galveston ID Card invoicing.Orders deposit slips.Balances daily cashier transactions, resolves discrepancies, and reports any anomalies to Financial Management Operations.Maintains IDT and iPay transactions for ID card billing services.Training
Supervises and trains student assistants.Develops and distributes procedural documentation.Provides ongoing training, creates job aids, and assists with payroll submissions as needed.Performs other duties as assigned.What you need to know

Required Education and Experience :
High School Diploma, GED, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Seven years of experience in a specialized financial field such as accounts payable, payroll or student accounts.Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.Two to four years' experience in higher education's student business office working directly with enrollment management offices like financial aid, registrar, or admissions.Two years of experience working in a banking environment.Eight years of experience in a specialized financial field such as accounting, accounts payable, or student accounts.Previous Texas A&M University or higher education experience.Strong Microsoft Excel Skills.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Excellent oral and written communication, customer service skills, and critical thinking skills.Attention to detail.Ability to comprehend, apply, and enforce rules and regulation at the University level.Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet programs, and bookkeeping procedures.Other Requirements and Factors :
