Job Title : Patient Care Technician

Experience : Minimum 1 year of hospital experience

License : Required

Certifications : BLS

PCT Certification via NHA

One of the following De-Escalation Training Certifications : CPI, MOAB, Handle with Care, TRUST training, or Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations

Must-Have :

BLS and PCT Certification upon application

De-escalation certification prior to start

Hospital experience

Phlebotomy experience

12 Lead EKG experience

Description :

The unit provides care for patients with severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues.

Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, depression, and trauma.

Patients may have multiple comorbidities but are typically medically stable.

Medically unstable patients will be transferred out.

PCTs will perform phlebotomy and 12 Lead EKGs.

PCT duties include transporting patients, assisting with activities of daily living, conducting patient contraband searches, and inventorying personal property.

PCTs will assist nurses and physicians as needed.

Psychotropic medications may be administered via IM injections and PO.

The department includes a charge nurse who does not take a patient assignment but coordinates the unit and assists staff.

Respiratory Therapy is available 24 / 7 for respiratory needs.

PCTs will do blood draws and have the responsibility for patient safety and monitoring.

The charting system is Allscripts and Cerner for blood draws and transfusions.

Cardiac monitoring is available, with Tele Techs overseeing monitoring responsibilities.

RNs are required to identify major rhythms and life-threatening rhythm changes.

X-ray and CT services are available, and PCTs are responsible for patient transport.

Weekend requirements include working every other weekend.

Scrub color is eggplant.
