Patient Care Technician Cna Icu

Texas Health Huguley Hospital is a joint venture with AdventHealth, and these two faith-based organizations have a long history of collaboration. The Texas Health Huguley campus will be operated by AdventHealth, and staff working at the facility will be AdventHealth employees. Perform general clerical duties, observe the telemetry monitors for a designated time frame, and specific non-professional services under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse / RN, to expedite the efficient function of the nursing unit consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and hospital administration. Operate the call light system and recognize emergency alarms. Must be able to recognize and document basic arrhythmias and respond appropriately. Must be able to perform a variety of specific patient care activities, consistent with goals, philosophy, standards and guidelines of the nursing department and the hospital.

The value you'll bring to the team :

  • Answers the unit telephone in a courteous manner.
  • Answers patient calls via intercom and refers message to appropriate nurse to promote prompt service to the patients on a consistent basis.
  • Notifies Charge Nurse / RN of pending admissions; notifies nurse of patient's arrival on unit or return to room from surgery / procedure.
  • Prepares charts for new admissions and for medical records following patient dismissal.
  • Labels charts and door with appropriate identification, allergy information and other pertinent information.
  • Accurately posts all admissions, transfers and discharges on activity boards and desk calendars each shift.
  • Checks, orders and distributes supplies and forms, according to unit policy, to maintain necessary supply without stock piling.
  • Completes and prepares any forms necessary to contribute to a well functioning nursing unit (includes diet sheets, vital sign worksheet, census sheets and assignment book).
  • Rounds hourly with patients purposefully addressing pain, potty, position, plan, personal items, and bed alarms.
  • Updates patient whiteboard during bedside shift report and continually throughout shift.
  • Responds to call lights and bed alarms with urgency to ensure patient safety.
  • Keeps patient activity board updated.
  • Charts care of patient in patient medical record : vital signs, baths, I&O, weights, activity, etc. and informs Charge Nurse of abnormal vital signs, abnormal glucose levels, or any changes in patient noted when care is provided.
  • Performs blood glucose checks on patients according to policy.
  • Picks up meal trays and documents intake in patient medical record.
  • Assists with unit errands when requested.
  • Maintains neat and organized appearance of nursing station with all supplies in appropriate place.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed :

Minimum qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Current Texas Certified Nurses Aide OR
  • Graduate of an approved Hospital specific PCT Training Program (i.e. THR / THH or Center For Learning Program) OR
  • Nursing student who has completed fundamentals within the past 2 years OR
  • Military experience with medical training equivalent (Equivalent to EMT-B) OR
  • 1 year of applicable PCT / EMT experience in lieu of an active and approved certification
  • BLS Required
