Description :
The Registered Respiratory Therapist has advanced knowledge and training of the cardiopulmonary system.
They are responsible for managing and treating patients using various scientific principles, therapies, and techniques.
The therapist performs and directs the administration of respiratory care services.
This includes oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medication, airway clearance, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and bedside spirometry.
Services are administered as ordered by the attending physician, and in accordance with established procedures.
In emergency situations, therapists administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Therapists review physician orders and analyze diagnostic test results.
They provide appropriate therapy based on the patient's current clinical condition.
When appropriate, therapists implement approved protocols.
Routine and advanced respiratory therapy is performed, prioritizing patient needs in a rapidly changing environment.
Therapists instruct patients in the use of respiratory care equipment in a thorough and professional manner.
They assess patient response to therapy and coach patients to improve technique.
All treatments and therapies administered are documented accurately, along with supplies used.
Therapists report outcomes of therapeutic interventions and make recommendations as appropriate.
They adhere to established policies, including infection control and isolation policies, HIPAA, and time and attendance policies.
Collaboration with other employees, healthcare professionals, and students is essential.
Therapists take responsibility and initiative to meet professional or technical requirements set by leadership.
Continuous quality improvement principles are incorporated into all aspects of clinical care.
Opportunities for improvement are identified as appropriate.
