Position Overview
A paving construction foreman is responsible for overseeing and coordinating asphalt paving operations on highways, streets, and other roadways. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to manage crews effectively.
Pay ranges from $33 to $38 an hour, based on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate activities of asphalt paving crews, subcontractors, and inspectors
Plan, schedule, and direct daily paving operations and projects
Ensure work quality meets safety standards and project specifications
Operate and maintain paving equipment as needed
Monitor and control project budgets, schedules, and material usage
Ability to brief crew members at daily / weekly safety tailgates
Train and evaluate crew members on proper techniques and safety procedures
Communicate with project managers and superintendents regarding progress and issues
Interpret construction plans and ensure compliance with contract requirements
Producing and submitting daily timecards for crew on a timely basis
Comply and enforce company's environmental, health and safety policies as well as ensuring all crew members comply with safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE and adhere to company's code of business.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications preferred
3-5 years of experience in asphalt paving, with a focus on highway construction
Valid commercial driver's license with ability to drive company provided vehicle
Knowledge of road construction methods, materials, and industry standards
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to operate heavy equipment and perform physical labor
Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control procedures
This position requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, and in various weather conditions. The foreman must be able to handle the physical demands of the job and maintain a safe work environment for the crew and public.
