The Data Engineer turns data into information, insight and business decisions by designing, building and maintaining data integrations, visualizations and dashboards that support Stelter's marketing and business activities. Primary responsibilities include creating and maintaining data pipelines into our centralized data repository, Domo; managing workflows to clean and organize data, building and automating report delivery, and developing and maintaining dashboards. In addition, this position creates and maintains software applications and automations that improve efficiency and reduce errors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are fundamental duties that an individual who holds the position must perform. This is not an exhaustive list. Other duties, in addition to these essential job functions, will be assigned at the discretion of the Vice President of Strategy, Innovation and Marketing.

1. Create, monitor and maintain data pipelines

  • Understand the data available from all Stelter systems
  • Establish, maintain and improve data source connections and update schedules
  • Create alerts and reports to monitor data pipeline executions
  • Develop and maintain quality control measures for data input and output
  • Manage and use governance policies related to data retention, naming conventions, and sharing with others inside and outside of Stelter

2. Manage and improve reporting systems

  • Manage card and dashboard creation using visualization and UX best practices
  • Maintain, monitor and enhance report-related scripts and automation workflows
  • Be an administrator of the Domo platform, managing user access, removing outdated / unused content, and working with tech support to resolve issues
  • 3. Create and maintain applications and automations

  • Gather detailed requirements
  • Define project outlines and deliverables
  • Consult with internal staff and external resources as needed
  • Maintain code, workflow and data according to standard work instructions
  • Continuously identify opportunities to automate workflows, reduce manual effort and scale insights delivery across the organization
  • 4. Collaborates with the data analytics team to support company and department goals and strategies

  • Uses the department's formal processes to share findings and recommendations with supervisor and other stakeholders
  • Document and share standard work instructions
  • Manages special projects as assigned
  • Stays current with the latest analytics, data, visualization and Stelter's tech stack
  • 5. Provide support and technical assistance for analytics and data systems

  • Provide timely support for data-related and product support requests
  • Work with others on the data analytics team to resolve more complicated requests
  • 6. Data Security and Privacy

  • Implement best practices for securing customer data, ensuring adherence to data privacy policies and regulations.
  • Regularly monitor and report on the security of PII, addressing any potential risks or vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure that data management processes adhere to company security protocols and industry standards.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

    Proficiency in :

  • Data integration and visualization tools like Domo, Power BI, Tableau or equivalent
  • Working with data and performing data analytics tasks
  • Data structures and data literacy
  • Windows / Mac : Microsoft Office (with Excel emphasis), Google Docs
  • Practical knowledge of :

  • Data analytics tools such as SQL, R, Python, or equivalent
  • Web analytics platforms such as Google or Adobe Analytics
  • Visualization and UX / UI best practices
  • Experience integrating third-party platforms such as Salesforce, email marketing systems (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud), etc.
  • General business competencies :

  • Office Suite products (Office 365 or Google Suite)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Must work effectively with all internal staff and outside suppliers, be professional, be a team player, yet be innovative; able to take constructive criticism and direction
  • Must set a good example to all staff members, as a mature professional, willing to help others when needed and show the willingness to do whatever is necessary to get the job done
  • Nonprofit industry awareness helpful
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Management, Data Science, Statistics or equivalent degree or experience
  • 2+ years of professional data / analytics work experience
