DESCRIPTION

The Lead Trauma Registrar is responsible for overseeing the accurate and timely collection, management, and reporting of trauma patient data within a hospital or trauma center. This position helps satisfy 1 on the required trauma registrar position which is a regulatorily requirement for a Level 1 Trauma center. This role ensures compliance with national trauma registry standards and supports trauma program quality improvement initiatives. The Lead Trauma Registrar will also provide leadership and guidance to trauma registry staff and act as a key liaison between clinical teams, administration, and external trauma organizations. Lead and supervise the trauma registry team to ensure precise data collection, entry, and maintenance of trauma patient records.

Oversee the abstraction and coding of trauma patient information in accordance with established guidelines such as the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS). Ensure compliance with state and national trauma data reporting requirements. Collaborate with trauma surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to validate data accuracy and completeness.

Generate and analyze trauma data reports for quality assurance, performance improvement, and research purposes. Support the Trauma Program Manager in preparing for trauma center accreditation and verification surveys. Develop and implement best practices and standard operating procedures for trauma data management. Train, mentor, and evaluate trauma registrar staff to promote professional development and high-quality data management. Stay current with changes in trauma registry standards, coding systems, and healthcare regulations. Participate in trauma committees and quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.

Works in conjunction with the Trauma Registrars to identify any PI issues.

This position is mostly computer work and not direct patient care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and / or experience.

Five (5) years of relevant experience with at least three years as a trauma registrar at a TQIP participating hospital.

AIS and ICD 10 courses in the last 3 years.

Experience in public speaking.

Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications.

Skills Knowledge : Ability to think proactively, act creatively, critical-thinking, excellent interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work as part of multiple teams. Ability to work in diverse cultural community groups.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

BSN or MSN.

Relevant clinical experience in Surgical ICU care, and / or Emergency Department, with knowledge of principles and practices of trauma patient care.

Knowledge of statistical reports, peer review, performance improvement and epidemiology.

Knowledge of computers : Epic, Power Point, Excel.

TNCC, ATLS, or ATCN instructor / coordinator.

TOPIC Course within last 5 years.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $119,400 - $230,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $57.18 - $110.54

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
