Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services is recruiting for a talentedChild Protective Service s (CPS) Initial Assessment / Access Supervisorto join its Child and Youth - Family Services Division.

The purpose of Child and Youth - Family Services Division is to serve individuals and families of Waukesha County by providing quality and professional services. We strive to use the many formal and informal supports within families and our community to keep children in their home whenever safely possible. We value collaboration and coordination with the families we serve, community professionals, and within our Department to implement effective prevention and intervention strategies. In the role of Initial Assessment / Access Supervisor you will empower a team of talented workers ensuring safety and well-being of children through practices aligned with Access & Initial Assessment Standards and Safety Intervention Standards as issued by Wisconsin Department of Children and Families.   • Focusing on preventive services to reduce the need for formal child welfare system involvement.

  • Recognizing the impact of trauma on children and families and incorporate strategies to reduce its effects.

  • Encouraging practices that promote healing and resilience in both children and their caregivers.
  • Using Data-Driven Decision-Making :
  • Utilizing data analytics to inform practice improvements and policy adjustments.

  • Continuously assessing program effectiveness through measurable outcomes.
  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Supervision and Leadership :
  • Manage, guide and support Initial Assessment and Access workers.

  • Ensure Initial Assessments and Access Reports are thorough, accurate, and timely as required in the Initial Assessment & Access Standards.
  • Provide coaching to improve staff performance and professional development.
  • Maintain a unit culture that values family voice, collaboration, and keeping children safely with parents / family whenever possible.
  • Be innovative, solution focused, open to new ideas and a team player
  • Casework and Assessment Oversight :
  • Oversee complex cases and provide direction on case management strategies to prioritize the safety, permanency, and well-being of children.

  • Approve recommended actions and in-home safety and protective plans.
  • Crisis Management :
  • Respond promptly to crisis situations, providing direction and support to staff during emergencies to ensure child safety and timely intervention.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance :
  • Monitor for adherence to Wisconsin DCF Standards.

  • Identify systemic issues and collaborate on policy / practice development to address them.
  • Participate in county and division initiatives and process or program improvement efforts.
  • Collaboration and Coordination :
  • Work in partnership with community resources, service providers, and families.

  • Actively participate in meetings with Division and Department leadership.
  • Act as a liaison between the agency and other stakeholders such as law enforcement, schools, mental health services, and contracted providers.
  • Foster partnerships with community resources and service providers to expand available supports to families.
  • Work Schedule

    40-hours a week, Monday through Friday 8AM to 4 : 30PM, with the ability to flex your schedule should the need arise. We can offer remote work after certain requirements are met.

    Minimum Training & Experience Requirements

    1. a. Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field.

    OR

    b. For work assignments in the Clinical Division, a master's degree in social work, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field is required. Possession of an unrestricted license by the State of Wisconsin as a mental health or substance abuse provider.

    2. Three (3) years of responsible professional work experience in social work or counseling in a human service agency.

    3. A master's degree from a recognized college or university in social work, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required work experience.
