Public Works Technician I

A sign-on bonus of $1000.00 will be awarded to the selected candidate. This position is considered a safety-sensitive position. Applicants who pass the interview process will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. The purpose of this position is to provide manual labor for the assigned division within the City.

Examples Of Essential Duties

Essential functions include :

• Communicate with others in spoken and written English to ensure safe and efficient operations of the business.
• Perform extreme physical labor for extended periods. Work is performed outdoors under all weather conditions.
• Trim grass, remove branches, and pick up litter in right of ways and medians around the City.
• Work on construction and road repair crews; drive manual and automatic single axel dump trucks; pick up loads of gravel, binder, or topping; drive to landfill to dump construction debris.
• Signal dump truck drivers for dumping gravel or hot mix, operate come-along and loop to smooth gravel and hot mix; operate packer or roller to smooth gravel and hot mix.
• Operate concrete saw to cut out trouble spots in road and sidewalks.
• Operate paving saw, packer, jack hammer, rakes, shovels, and push broom.
• Load and unload materials such as dirt, asphalt, salt, storm drainpipes, and sign materials.
• Remove and replace manhole covers which can weigh up to 165 pounds.
• Climb in and out of manholes which can be up to 10 feet deep.
• Ascend and descend ladders up to 24 feet high.
• Manipulate both large and small tool parts.
• Run maps when weather does not allow for normal job duties, check for problems with street drainage, road failures, street signs, and vegetation obstruction of street signs.
• Clean and maintain all equipment, tools, and vehicles.
• Responsible for snow and ice removal, salts roads and walkways as needed.
• Respond to natural disasters.
• Participate in on-call and standby duties, which involves working alone or with co-workers at night, weekends, and holidays to resolve situations that occur after normal business hours.
• Perform other work as assigned.
