REPORTS TO : DIRECTOR OF EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION
POSITION SUMMARY : The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Program Specialist will promote the educational development of Pre-K through 12th grade students with disabilities. The ESE Program Specialist will work directly with teachers, administrators, and parents to ensure the appropriate delivery of exceptional student programs and facilitate trainings to ensure student achievement in academics, behavior / social skills, and emotional well-being.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS :
Education :
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience :
5 years of teaching experience with a minimum of three years teaching students with disabilities preferred.Computer Skills :
Basic understanding and knowledge of use of current technology, as required for the position. Experience in data entry and Microsoft Suite.Certificates and / or Licenses :
Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license or obtain within 30 work days and the ability to drive. Florida Educator’s Certificate in Exceptional Student Education required.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Light Work – Required to push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and / or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Manifest a professional code of ethics and values at all times.Support activities designed to achieve priority goals identified through the District’s strategic plan.Exhibit theoretical and research-based content knowledge and pedagogy for respective content area.Assist school personnel in the collection and analysis of data for assessment, evaluation, and decision-making.Provide assistance and coordination in program development, alignment, implementation, and evaluation to support school and District priorities.Assist school administrators and teachers in understanding curriculum programs and implications for classroom practices and student achievement by, but not limited to, modeling and demonstrating effective practices.Assist administrators and teachers in recognizing and responding to the multiple needs of the diverse learners in the District.Disseminate and interpret current trends and research related to program content and their impact on student learning.Assist in the selection, acquisition, use, and evaluation of appropriate materials.Maintain appropriate records and conduct ongoing evaluation of programs, services, and student achievement.Assist and collaborate with other educators in planning program goals, objectives, and methods.Interact with parents, community agencies, and businesses to support school and District priorities.Facilitate the implementation of programs, activities, and strategies designed to achieve District goals and objectives.Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.Assist in planning and providing staff development activities for assigned program area(s).Develop, maintain, and monitor a tracking system related to the ESE staff on referrals and case studies.Provide, upon request, consultations to ESE staff on individual cases.Serve as liaison with District departments to assure consistency of ESE and those functions required for District-wide consistency and standardization.Assist the ESE Director to plan and direct a system of feedback and assessment of ESE staff to determine their responsiveness to the needs for schools and learning communities.Facilitate communication with parents and staff to resolve problems and critical issues.Provide professional learning for parents, schools, teachers, or staff related to ESE.Keep the Director informed of critical issues and incidents within the area of responsibility about which the supervisor should be aware.Coach and mentor private school teachers and liaisons in meeting the needs of their students with exceptionalities.Develop and conduct professional learning for private school teachers and administrators focusing on strategies designed to help them support the needs of their students with exceptionalities.Provide District leadership through participation in collaborative working groups, including cross-department projects and initiatives.Follow the District’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by Marion County Public Schools with the support of the District and attend training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research trends and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.Provide accurate and actionable feedback to parents, schools, teachers, or staff.Perform other duties as assigned.
