Performs difficult skilled administrative support work supporting the operations of the Elections Department, and related work as apparent or assigned. Performs intermediate technology-based work assisting with the preparation, maintenance and operational support of computers and peripherals, voting systems, and related equipment. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Elections Director.
- Registers voters, determines voter eligibility and maintains the voter database.
- Assists with the testing and maintenance ofvoting equipment and systems in accordance with state guidelines
- Performs software and hardware updates, downloads election software and prepares electronic poll books and memory cards.
- Troubleshoots equipment during the election process on and off site.
- Assists with training for precinct officials for each election.
- Conducts geocode / map updates and related processes.
- Prepares, packages and maintains election supplies and ballots for delivery to precincts and early voting sites.
- Assists with coordinating and scheduling of precinct officials.
- Responds to inquiries from the public, elected officials, candidates, the media, and others.
- Monitors and updates the department website.
- Assists with filing of candidate materials; collects fees and notarizes documents.
- Prepared, maintains and purges various electronic and paper files.
- Performs other assigned duties.
- General knowledge of standard office procedures.
- General knowledge of personal computers along with their related software and hardware applications.
- General ability to read and interpret land maps for precinct designation and information.
- Ability to learn and effectively implement federal, state and municipal voter registration laws and regulations.
- Ability to learn and effectively implement voting procedures, maintenance and protection of voting registration lists and records.
- Ability to compute and audit election results.
- Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Six months to one-year experience in business administration, office administration, computer systems, or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Valid driver's license.
- North Carolina Notary Public Certification within six months of hire.
