This is an independent contractor (1099) role.

As a contract Hospice Medical Director for Interim HealthCare, you will provide overall medical direction and serve as the physician representative of the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG). You will oversee patient care across all settings—home, inpatient, emergency, and respite—acting as the primary medical resource for the IDG and ensuring compassionate, high-quality care. Responsibilities include direct medical oversight, patient visits for assessment and intervention, and medical coverage during and after business hours.

In addition to patient care, you will provide leadership for hospice operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, payer requirements, and Interim HealthCare standards. You will guide staff performance, optimize resources, and inspire teams to deliver excellence in patient and family satisfaction while supporting the growth of our hospice services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide overall medical direction for hospice services, ensuring adherence to clinical standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in development and review of patient care policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to determine patient eligibility and appropriate plan of care.
  • NP back up for F2F visits.
  • Review clinical records, certifications of terminal illness, and physician orders as required.
  • Support staff education, clinical training, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between community physicians and the hospice team.
  • Ensure compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, state regulations, and best practice standards.
  • Required Skills Knowledge, Skills & Abilities :

  • Knows the applicable law, regulation and contract provisions associated with terminal illness certification for hospice admission or for continuing hospice care.
  • Ability to work as a member of the Interdisciplinary Group.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to hospice philosophy of care and palliative intervention.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clinical and non-clinical staff, patients and family / caregivers as well as the medical community.
  • Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient care.
  • Meets the requirements of applicable federal, state and organizational background checks.
  • Requirements :

  • MD degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license in GA. Must be located in the Greater Atlanta Area.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or related specialty (Hospice & Palliative Medicine certification preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in hospice, palliative care, geriatrics, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare / Medicaid hospice regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
