What this job involves :

The Assistant Chief Engineer supervises, leads, and supports our mobile team in the operation, inspection, and maintenance processes to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems in assigned facilities within Maryland, Virginia and DC. This role has responsibilities and expectations to include demonstrating technical expertise in multiple craft areas (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) and be multi-skilled in all others to successfully repair, maintain, restore, and replace various operational components independently and as a teacher supplying team support.

What your day-to-day will look like :

  • Safety leadership involves adhering to all safety policies and procedures while proactively identifying hazards and proposing effective solutions to maintain a secure work environment.
  • Maintenance operations include performing preventive and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems using CMMS work order systems for task management and tracking.
  • Technical expertise requires diagnosing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining HVAC, electrical, plumbing equipment, and building surfaces while supporting leadership to ensure Service Level Agreement and Key Performance Indicator compliance.
  • Training and mentorship responsibilities involve sharing technical knowledge in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and safety with team members to promote skill development and maintain high professionalism standards.
  • Building automation systems management includes monitoring BAS systems, responding to alarms, resolving issues, and maintaining accurate records including building rounds, maintenance readings, and safety documentation per regulations.
  • Customer service excellence involves delivering exceptional service to tenants and agencies by completing work efficiently with minimal disruption while participating in team meetings, training programs, and after-hours support activities.
  • Essential qualifications include strong teamwork and communication skills, ability to manage CAPA plans independently, hands-on commercial HVAC experience, emergency response capabilities, technology proficiency, and physical ability to perform demanding tasks while maintaining security clearance for controlled access facilities.

Required Qualifications :

  • 5+ years facility related work experience, including customer service, leadership and supervisory experience
  • Managerial experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of maintenance processes.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Maryland Driver's License.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Certification of Universal CFC Required, additional certifications are a plus (electrical, plumbing, OSHA, etc)
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent
  • Ability to receive and maintain a company sponsored clearance if required
  • Experience working in a controlled access facility
  • Knowledge of local building / equipment codes
  • Location : Gaithersburg, MD

    Estimated compensation for this position :

    70,900.00 102,000.00 USD per year

    This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
