Minimum Biweekly Rate of Pay : $1,751.77 Bi-Weekly = $21.90 per hour
Bi-Weekly = $21.90 per hour (In accordance with current spending restrictions, if the appointment is an internal promotion, the position will be filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee's current rate, whichever higher.)

Location Information : Manatee Regional Juvenile Detention Center - 1803 5th St W, Bradenton, FL 34205
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for youth, staff and others, upholding a zero-tolerance policy for escapes, abuse, sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct by staff with detained youth.
- Assist in operating a secure detention center and ensure detained youth receive their constitutional rights with attention to legal, medical and mental health issues.
- Ensure compliance of services and programming with court orders, departmental policies and Quality Assurance standards.
- Complete training to maintain proficiency in dispensing medications to youth and distribute medication in the absence of a designated medical health authority or facility nurse.
- Perform duties in Master Control, admissions, releases, and transportation as necessary.
- Supervise youth in all activities, issue directives, counsel, and use appropriate levels of protective action as needed to control detained youth in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Inspect facility, youth, visitors and packages for contraband.
- Train and coach employees on duties and facility policies and procedures; orient new staff.
- In the absence of the supervisor, assume acting supervisor duties.
- Write reports and prepare records regarding incidents and movements, and document violations of procedures, rules and statutes; prepare detained youth for court appearances and transport as needed.
- Use security and emergency equipment to ensure safety and security of youth and facility.
- Complete 10-minute / 5-minute checks or Continuous Sight and Uninterrupted Sound Supervision for youths in confinement or designated as suicidal.
- Assess information available through the Juvenile Justice Information System and initiate / maintain detained youth counts as directed.
- Attend and complete required training; perform CPR, AED and First Aid as trained; attend required meetings.
- Maintain a valid Driver License and report changes to supervision; comply with driver restrictions for state vehicles.
- Perform other duties as required and ensure compliance with applicable laws and policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.Ability to perform basic arithmetic and maintain records.Ability to work effectively with youth, coworkers, supervisors and the public.Knowledge of hygiene, facility policies and procedures, and general housekeeping related to sanitary conditions.Ability to understand and follow instructions and determine appropriate levels of force.Ability to observe changes in youth behavior and provide constructive feedback.Special Notes
