The staff therapist is responsible for providing all cardio pulmonary care to patients of all ages following established standards and practices. This employee will perform patient assessment and intervention in accordance with the level of training received during orientation. Will be competent to provide care to patients in the following categories : newborn, infants, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
The Respiratory Therapist works with patients of all ages and in many different care settings. They are members of the health care team that provide care for patients with heart and lung disorders. The Respiratory therapy staff work with the Doctors and nurses as a team to provide quality health care for our patients. Respiratory therapists perform procedures that are both diagnostic and therapeutic.

Ability to maintain confidentiality; and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors, and satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment.Incorporates Mission, Vision and Core Values of LCHC into department, and ensures departmental employees and self adhere to these.Wears appropriate apparel for the position and displays nametag upon such apparel.Demonstrates regular and predictable work attendance.Demonstrates flexibility as patient care needs change.Adheres to all LCHC Polices & Procedures, as well as all regulatory guidelines, laws, regulation by outside agency including Federal Compliance & LCHC Compliance programs.Attends meetings and serves on committees as requestedAssists with quality management including collection, compilation, and reporting of that dataAssists in other areas as requested / necessaryOther duties as assignedPerforms approved testing in the laboratoryRespiratory Therapy services included but not limited to :Intermittent Positive Pressure Breathing (IPPB)Aerosol treatmentsChest Physio-therapyBreathing exercisesPulmonary functions studiesKnow all respiratory medications used with breathing treatmentsOperation and maintenance of all Respiratory Therapy equipmentOral suctioning for sputum culture or as needed to be airway maintenanceElectrocardiogram procedures included but not limited to :Routine EKGStat EKGTransmitted EKGRhythm stripHolter monitorsPacemaker testStress treadmillsCardiac Stress TestingOperation and maintenance of all EKG equipmentOxygen Therapy including but not limited to :Set up oxygen as ordered by physician (all types)Do daily oxygen roundsProtocol to set up home patients needing oxygen / breathing treatmentsSet up and monitoring oxygen analyzerSet up and monitoring pulse oximeterOperation and maintenance of all oxygen equipmentCardio Pulmonary Resuscitation including but not limited to :Respond to Code Blue calls and assist where neededKeeps current in CPR re-certification and performs in emergenciesKnowledgeable of ambu bag and hyperventilation equipmentVentilate via appropriate meansRecord Keeping including but not limited to :Charts all therapy procedures performedComplete all forms on services providedDo daily department chargesLog all procedures in department recordsAble to order necessary supplies for all department areasKnow scheduling protocol of all diagnostic testsAssist with quality assurance and monthly statsKnowledge of protocol used to set up home patients with oxygen or breathing treatmentsFamiliar with all policies and procedures of departmentKnows where all equipment are storedKeeps department manager informedAble to do patient assessment and inform physician of proper therapy whenRespiratory Therapy consult is ordered
