The Academic Coach is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of learning center services and events : tutoring, learning resources, and workshops.

The incumbent will be responsible to :

Primary Functions :

  • Assist students in the development of effective study and learning strategies as needed.
  • Offer academic success coaching by identifying barriers to success and strategies to overcome those barriers
  • Offer support and guidance to meet each student's individual needs
  • Provide academic tutoring for all subjects within proficiency
  • Offer periodic workshops on a variety of topics related to student success
  • Maintain accurate tutoring records by entering information into tutoring software system (WCO)
  • Maintain contact with student's academic advisor and / or faculty as needed
  • Advise students on academic probation
  • Monitor phone calls and welcome desk while maintaining inventory or control of Learning Center's study materials, supplies and equipment
  • Assist in the promotion of learning center services.
  • Work with the appropriate administrators ensuring a smooth flow of learning center operations.
  • Make referrals to important services such as tutoring, testing, accessibility services, and other important student support services.
  • Share in the supervision of the work-study students employed by the Center.
  • Assist in the assessment of tutoring services.
  • Serve prospective students by answering questions about the Center services.
  • Assume various responsibilities as determined to be appropriate by the director and associate director.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • A Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Education, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel Administration or academic discipline
  • Competent using Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in a customer service function for a minimum of two years
  • Experience with keeping records and developing reports
  • Experience developing and facilitating training workshops

  • Must demonstrate competence with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and record keeping
