POSITION PURPOSE :
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Operations department. Primary focus is on understanding and communicating all customer expectations, to include internal stakeholders, and ensure that all departments support the company’s critical success factors : 100% Customer Satisfaction, Profitable Growth, and Personnel Development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES . Other duties may be assigned.
- Communicate on a daily basis with the General Manager as well as all other department heads. Keep Senior Management apprised of all significant events that affect plant operations, to include product contamination, major equipment failure, downtime, and personal injuries. Responsible for setting and maintaining a high level of urgency within the facility with regard to food / plant safety, productivity, quality, and cleanliness. Provides a daily presence on the production floor to be proactive, maintain a consistent level of urgency, and facilitate teamwork between all departments. May participate in ideation, concept development, management of, or direct supervision of product development or process improvement initiatives.
- Hold the Production Superintendents accountable for the results within their specific areas of responsibility and that everyone speaks with one voice. Foster an environment that supports the Department Goals while placing strong emphasis on completing all assignments on time. Responsible for ensuring adequate depth is sustained within the Operations Department and backups are identified and developed for all key positions. Coordinates hiring and staffing within the Operations Department in conjunction with the Human Resources department and appropriate department heads.
- Maintain an awareness of all facility activities and events, to include the performance results and current status of all departments.
- Develop and manage the capital expense budget and departmental budgets for the Operations Department by working in unison with each department head. Develop, maintain and evaluate relationships with key vendors and suppliers to ensure that all company expectations are met and in alignment with the critical success factors.
- Provide timely feedback with regard to the performance strengths and opportunities of all direct reports. Approve all departmental performance reviews and promotions while ensuring that appropriate criteria have been met, and recommendations are in alignment with company expectations. Responsible for partnering with the Human Resources department in managing the Succession Planning process to ensure that personnel development is top of mind.
- Conduct travel paths with the General Manager a minimum of once per month to ensure facility condition is in alignment with company expectations. Maintains a sound and ethical working relationship with the USDA / FSIS and ensures all non-compliance reports are responded to timely and accurately. Is a resource for all other departments and remove any barriers that inhibit continuous improvement and company objectives.

Education and / or experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Meat Science or Business preferred with a minimum of five years related experience with progressive managerial responsibilities.
