Job Description

About Sunset Valley Construction

We are a Sitework & Underground Utilities Contractor in Greater Hartford, CT. We build and maintain the infrastructure that keeps society running while helping our people build sustainable and successful lives.

How You’ll Contribute

As we enter a new phase of growth, you'll make things happen in the field. Be at the heart of your project, turning plans into results while mentoring crews and sharpening your own skills along the way. Build your career, expand your knowledge, and leave a tangible mark on a company that’s growing with you.

What You'll Get To Do

  • Work with a crew of 2-7 (both experienced and green)
  • Support, mentor, and lead a highly motivated team that strives to improve and find the best ways to complete projects
  • Prepare sites for new schools, apartment buildings, roads, subdivisions, infrastructure rebuilds, and warehouses up to 200K sq ft from $400K - $4M
  • Direct successful projects by ensuring your team has the necessary resources and is aligned on deliverables
  • With new equipment and modern tech, deliver high-quality, design-accurate work
  • Be the reason your crew goes home to their families each day by prioritizing safety above all else
  • Work alongside a highly skilled team committed to helping you succeed and grow
  • Keep your evenings and weekends free, working in the greater Hartford area (within 1 hour of Ellington)

What You Bring

  • 6+ years of experience in heavy civil, preferably commercial site work, excavation, or underground utilities
  • 2+ years as a Foreman
  • You turn man-hours into measurable progress, avoid wasting labor on the wrong tasks, and know when to push harder vs when it’s smarter to regroup
  • You know your way around drawings, equipment, and GPS
  • You value culture over ego and aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves to teach and earn the crew’s respect
  • Even Better (but not required)

  • You've gotten your boots dirty in the field, working your way up from Laborer, and have built a deep understanding of each role's significance and challenges.
  • What’s In It For You

    Career Growth & Leadership

  • A real runway to lead, with the foundation to actually succeed when you get there
  • Mentorship and unlimited training (hands-on and digital), including leadership development
  • Professional personal financial advice
  • Team & Culture

  • Low-ego, high-output team culture where respect is earned, not demanded
  • A family-first company with accruing PTO
  • Perks & Lifestyle

  • Company truck
  • Newer equipment with modern technology
  • 2 pre-paid Southwest plane tickets anywhere in the USA once a year
  • Personal use of SVC equipment at any time (as long as it doesn’t interfere with work schedules)
  • Health & Financial Benefits

  • Health, Dental, and Vision insurance after 3 months, 75% paid for all employees and their immediate family
  • 401K plan with a 3% company match after 3 months
  • We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other protected status. We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within our workplace and creating an environment where all individuals feel valued, respected, and supported. We comply with all applicable laws governing EEO and affirmative action, and we ensure that all employment decisions are made solely based on job-related qualifications and merit.
