The Dixon Police Department is recruiting full-time Police Officers at either the Academy Graduate Level or Lateral Level, and establishing an employment eligibility list for future use. This recruitment is for academy graduates and lateral officers only. The Department offers a 12-hour shift schedule and opportunities for specialization and advancement.

Responsibilities

Police Officers are responsible for a wide variety of generalist police services. The department operates on a 12-hour shift schedule and supports career growth within patrol, investigations, canine, traffic enforcement, tactical operations, and crisis negotiations.

Ideal Candidate

Education : Equivalent to high school graduation. College or university education is desirable.

Experience : See eligibility requirements below for Academy Graduate and Lateral candidates.

Eligibility and Requirements

Academy Graduate Applicants Must Meet The Following Requirements

• Possess a current Certificate of Completion from a Basic Training Academy certified by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.)
• Possess a valid satisfactory driving record within 6 months from the date you submitted your application (a DMV printout will be required at background check).
• Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for citizenship.
• Spanish-speaking ability is desirable but not required.
• Other related law enforcement training and experience is desirable but not required.

Lateral Police Officer Applicants Must Meet The Following Requirements

Complete an online application and submit required documents. Copies of POST certificates (Lateral or Academy Graduate) must be attached at the time of application. NO FAXES OR EMAIL ACCEPTED. This recruitment may close after a sufficient number of candidates have been accepted.

Selection & Employment Process

Applications and supplemental questions will be reviewed and screened; the most qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. The process includes a Personal History Statement (PHS) review, interview, Polygraph exam, extensive background investigation, credit history review, pre-employment medical, drug test, and psychological assessments. Failure of any component eliminates the candidate from further processing. All appointees are required to complete a field training program and an 18-month probationary period, and must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States.

Veteran's Preference points will be applied. A copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.
