Job Description
The Ellisville Veterinary Hospital Veterinary Technician is responsible for providing superior customer service to all clients and supporting the hospital each and every day. Our Technicians are the liaison between the doctors and both the clients and the patients. We firmly believe that being thoughtful, kind, and compassionate are just as critical to patient care and the client experience as competence, knowledge, and skill.
Essential Functions / Job Duties
(you will be assisted in learning how to do many of these things as needed and not be expected to be able to do them all on day 1)
Evaluating patients and obtaining history from clients
Restraining patients for exams and procedures
Organization and maintenance of both digital and paper client records
Vaccination preparation and administration
Lab work including but not limited to obtaining samples of blood, urine, feces and running appropriate tests associated with each sample (be it in house or
sent out with appropriate paperwork and packaging per lab standards)
Maintenance of hospital equipment including but not limited to radiology, autoclave, ultrasonic cleaners, IDEXX laboratory equipment, and dental
cleaning equipment.
Clean up after pets including saliva, urine, feces, and vomit
Assist the doctors including but not limited to :
Filling prescriptions
Taking radiographs
Caring for and administering treatment to patients (subcutaneous fluids, medications, intravenous fluids, etc.)
Ear cleaning
Anal gland expression
Pedicures
Placing IV catheters
Surgical paperwork
Drug calculations
Anesthesia Induction & monitoring
Patient intubation
Helping to maintain cleanliness of kennels, patient treatment area, surgery, and work stations
Maintenance of controlled drug, anesthesia, laboratory, radiology, and surgery medical logs
Client / Patient follow up calls
Able to work independently and in team environment
Computer skills (desired, not needed in all cases)

High School Diploma or equivalent
Must be 18 years of age or older
Licenses and Certification
Veterinary Technician License / Registration – State of Missouri
Valid Driver’s License required

Schedule includes some evenings and weekends.
Other
Licensed Technicians are required to complete the number of Continuing Education hours mandatory to keep their license. Unlicensed technicians are
required to attend at least one CE meeting per year focused on job appropriate information.
