Overview
The Senior Payroll Specialist is the second level of a two-level Payroll Specialist series.

Responsibilities
- Serve as back-up for the Accounting Manager to perform AZ360 maintenance and direct payroll staff.
- Authorize all internal and GAO critical functions, including approval of manual warrants when the Payroll Manager is out of the office.
- Act as a resource for payroll questions, reports, and concerns from management and staff by researching and interpreting information through ASDB, SAAM, GAO, FLSA Federal, state statute policy, and procedures.
- Review, analyze, verify, and monitor payroll documents, reports, and entries for accuracy; make adjustments or corrections through established payroll / policy procedures.
- Help develop and maintain bi-weekly spreadsheets, calendars, and audits of deferred pay (Spread Pay) for 10-month staff.
- Maintain, update, review payroll records; verify staff HR data entry, tax exemptions, ASRS status, transfers, and resignations / terminations.
- Audit and correct leave plans and deferred pay (Spread pay). Create and monitor electronic and physical files.
- Communicate payroll processes, changes, and interpretation of payroll data effectively.
- Provide effective customer service for internal and external customers; communicate with Payroll, Finance, and Human Resources teams.
- Review staff members' ETE entries for timeliness and accuracy; provide technical support during the pay period ending.
- Provide assistance, support, and training to Payroll / Travel Specialists and employees.
- Create payroll reports, audit errors, observe trends, suggest new payroll strategies; support the budget, grants, and Medicaid teams.
- Ensure quality control of payroll transactions, paychecks, payroll accounting, and leave balance accrual, RASL and ASRS.
- Attend State and agency trainings.
- Note : Position will be responsible for some or all listed duties and / or additional duties as they arise.
