Ozell Services, Inc. (OSI) is seeking a qualified Structural Engineer to provide onsite professional engineering support to the U.S. Coast Guard Civil Engineering Unit (CEU) Cleveland .
This position plays a vital role in supporting the design, review, and oversight of structural engineering projects involving Coast Guard facilities and shore infrastructure across the Great Lakes and surrounding regions.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, design review capability, and a collaborative approach to help the Coast Guard maintain safe, resilient, and mission-ready facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and analysis for facility renovations, repairs, and new construction projects.
- Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations prepared by design contractors.
- Conduct site visits and condition assessments to evaluate existing structural systems and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare engineering reports, calculations, scopes of work, and cost estimates in accordance with USCG and federal standards.
- Support project managers in design development, bid evaluation, and construction-phase problem resolution.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables meet applicable codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, UFC, etc.).
- Coordinate with architects, civil and mechanical engineers, and construction inspectors to ensure project integration.
- Provide technical input during design reviews, submittal evaluations, and change order assessments.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in structural design, facility repair, or construction support.Strong knowledge of building codes, structural design methods, and load analysis.Proficiency in AutoCAD , Revit , and structural analysis software (e.g., RISA, STAAD, ETABS, or similar).Excellent technical writing, communication, and report development skills.U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a Tier 1 / Tier 2 Public Trust background check.Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer ( P.E. ) license (or ability to obtain within 12 months).Experience supporting federal, military, or public-sector infrastructure projects.Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Coast Guard or DoD design standards.Working knowledge of sustainability and resilience design principles.
