Definition
Under the direct supervision of the Site Supervisor, the Teacher is responsible for the care, education, and development of children from infancy through preschool (ages 0–5). This role ensures compliance with California State Department of Education Title 5 Funding Terms and Conditions, Department of Social Services Community Care Licensing Title 22 Child Day Care Center Regulations, and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The Teacher will also uphold Heartbeat Music & Performing Arts Academy's Preschool for the Arts policies and procedures while overseeing the classroom environment, as well as supervising Teaching Assistants, Volunteers, and Interns.
Responsibilities
- Planning, supervising, and implementing the program for the group in accordance with the policies, procedures, and philosophies specified within Title 5 and Title 22 regulations and HBMPAA Preschool for the Arts program.
- Observing enrolled children, completing weekly observations and entering observations within the DRDP tech system.
- Conducting ongoing evaluation and assessments using the DRDP system; formulating short- and long-term goals for each child based on ongoing observation, assessment, and input from the teaching team and parents.
- Maintaining each child's portfolio, anecdotal records, and DRDP on a weekly basis.
- Designing the program to meet the individual needs of each child, incorporating interests, strengths, needs, family, cultural, and linguistic diversity.
- Recording daily services provided to each child in the "My Day Log" (e.g., meals, food, naps, and daily activities).
- Ensuring special diets, medically-based diets, or special accommodations are adhered to and implemented; maintaining records confidentially.
- Conducting parent–teacher conferences according to the timelines specified with DRDP and as needed.
- Completing referrals in a timely manner in conjunction with the Site Supervisor or Area Child Development Specialist.
- Completing timely and accurate records and reports such as My Day Log, Child Incident / Accident / Injury Report, 15 Minute Ratio Increment, Daily Staff-Child Ratio, Monthly Attendance Reports, and Daily Meal Count Reports.
- Assisting in the organization, arrangement, design, appearance, and safety of the learning environment reflecting quality and developmentally appropriate environments for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers; ensuring maintenance of learning materials and equipment indoors and outdoors.
- Establishing the indoor and outdoor environment according to the Infant Toddler Environmental Rating Scale (ITERS) or Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS), consistently achieving and maintaining a minimum score of five.
- Conducting daily Health and Safety checklists; reporting health and safety issues to the Site Supervisor and providing input for the Potential Area of Concern record.
- Ensuring daily sanitation of materials and equipment, including laundering bedding, wash clothes, and bibs.
- Establishing a weekly rotational assignment for daily cleaning and sanitation responsibilities, ensuring an equal share of housekeeping tasks (e.g., wiping tables, chairs, sinks, counters; sweeping floors; discarding waste; disinfecting toys and equipment).
- Participating in program evaluations (DRDP and Annual Report CMR) and providing input to develop action plans as requested.
- Participating in community events as needed.
- Attending scheduled meetings and trainings as needed (e.g., Annual Staff Orientation, ECERS, ITERS, DERP, and mandatory Nutrition Services Division (NSD) training as applicable).
Minimum Qualifications
The Teacher must have successfully completed a minimum of 12 postsecondary semester units (or the equivalent in quarter units) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Official transcripts verifying completion of the required coursework must be provided. To be eligible to teach infants and toddlers, applicants must also have completed an infant / toddler care course as part of their studies.Must have a valid Teacher's Permit or be able to obtain a Teacher's Permit prior to the start date.The Teacher must have a minimum of six months of experience in a licensed childcare center or comparable group childcare program.Must complete 8 hours of Health and Safety training; additionally, the Preschool Teacher must complete mandated training, CPR, and first aid training.The Preschool Teacher must provide an updated Health Screening Report including negative TB results.Must have a valid California driver's license and be able to pass a criminal background check (DOJ, FBI).J-18808-Ljbffr
