Rural Family Medicine Opportunity near Madison, WI (Portage Clinic)

The University of Wisconsin Department of Family Medicine and Community Health,  UW Health Portage Clinic, in Portage, Wisconsin , is interested in a Family Medicine physician to provide the full spectrum of family medicine skills in an outpatient clinic. This position will be involved in clinical teaching of medical students and other learners. This position may involve academic scholarly work.

This clinic has a small-town feel with the support of a large, academic system and connections with specialists.

DFMCH is seeking family medicine physicians who encompass a variety of skills that relate to how they engage with patients and work in teams. Faculty at UW-Madison have the opportunity for professional growth that will allow them to pursue additional clinical and academic interests. In addition to their clinic roles, faculty may have opportunities to practice OMT, Integrative Health, inpatient medicine, POCUS, and more. There are also opportunities in the medical school for formal teaching roles, may be opportunities within the organization for leadership roles, and may also be scholarly research focused projects and committees that a faculty member can participate. Clinical duties are defined with department leadership approval based on the finalists career interests and based on the clinical needs.

Community :   Portage, WI is located just north of Madison. Some providers and staff live in Madison, and some live in Portage. Portage offers the small-town feel, and Madison provides urban amenities. Working in Portage offers options as it relates to your community preferences.

Portage, WI (population estimated 10,000), is located in Columbia County and is one of the oldest settlements in Wisconsin. It is named for the Fox-Wisconsin Waterway, a portage between the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. Portages small-town charm and a high quality of life has something to offer residents of all ages. The downtown retail district has a variety of quaint shops with well-preserved original Victorian architecture. Portage is also home to a segment of The Ice Age Trail, a 10,000-year-old trail that spans 1,200 miles of Wisconsin and travels through 30 counties.  The trail is open year round for hiking, backpacking and snowshoeing.
